One of the legends of SA wine…wines, had some good and bad service at the restaurant, but the food itself is always great, that is why we will probably be back again!

Since University I have been here a few times and that is saying alot, for I have a firm believe that a wine tasting manager or assistant can make or break a Wine Estate, there are Estates that I will never visit again because of this but Delheim does not have this problem. I have always felt welcome and the wines were very enjoyable. Hope to visit soon again.

I was surprised at how big the operation is at Delheim – having only driven as far as Muratie in the past, I’ll be sure to visit here more often! The wines are good and very well priced with numerous specials on at the time of my visit as well as the screening of SWC games. Wine and soccer is a clash of cultures, perhaps, but where better to enjoy the sparring than Delheim?
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and left me alone for long enough to let me enjoy myself but were close-by to answer my questions and offer some insight on meal pairings and cellaring.
The place is really pretty and fully complements the drive into one of the Winelands’ most scenic areas.
Next time I visit I’ll start here (as they have so many decent wines to sample) and I’ll bring someone else’s credit card!

Very worthwhile to visit. Beautifull setting, excellent food and good wine. Better priced than Muratie. Dark, warm cellar for tasting.

Stunning old farm with history oozing from its pores. There is wine for every taste. Their MCC is refreshingly well priced.

If I had to rate a winery on looks, this one would score a terrific and tremendous 10! BEAUTIFUL!! Little cottages and buildings are covered in ivy, big trees and with the leaves changing colour, the vine-covered patio looked awesome. Fairytalewonderland! We stopped over to try their wines, instead for their lunch special … which they ran out of so we had to opt for something else. I enjoyed a their fabulous pastrami and did not enjoy their Bianca (dreadfully) Light – this wine should not be sold, instead it should be used to pay farm labourers. Sea Point tannies would also enjoy this one on a late afternoon or the Gauteng traveler who likes to drop ice cubes in their wine. Natural setting +8; Food +1 even though you can get this on Long Street in Town as well; service -2 cause that’s what my notes said so a solid 7 overall.

So it is quite a nice ride going to Delheim passing Muratie… and definitely a lovely scenery surrounding Delheim…. Friendly staff a nice cool, relaxing place to be indeed the tasting venue does however have an old bar type ambience to it… though the staff are well informed of their wines, i don’t really want to wait 10 minutes between every wine i have, yes it may be a Saturday which us usually busier, but today it wasn’t that bad at all…
the wines did make up for it with all of the whites being very fresh and easy drinking, good for the SA climate.. as for the reds the Vera Cruz Shiraz 2005 did stand out rather well!
a pleasant experience indeed

I’ve never had a bad tasting experience at Delheim. Our host, Simon, was friendly and knowledgeable. The tasting fee is R20 for six wines, but he let us taste some extra wines free in order to compare, for instance, their normal Pinotage with their Pinotage Reserve, as well as comparing different vintages of the same wine.

Delheim is one of my all-time Stellenbosch favourites. I love their tasting room, and the restaurant has a simple but ample menu.

Stopped in here recently to do a tasting. The Pinotage Rose is still one of my favourites and very reasonably priced. The Chardonnay Sur Lie is also delicious (and I am not normally a fan of Chardonnay). Found that the Merlot really wasn’t full enough, but the Shiraz and reds we tasted from the reserve list were fantastic.

So Delheim decided it’s time to give back to the people and it turned out to be the bargain of the century! The price of your meal where divided by the dollar currency and you only paid that amount in rands. So this is what we had:

Starters: Eland Capaccio @ R7.15 (x2) it’s normal R60
Mains: Lambshank @ R12.74 (x2) it’s normally R90
Desert: Cheesecake @ R3.64 (x1) it’s normally R30
Bottle wine: R55
Coffee: R9

Total: R107.42 (bargain of note!) We added a tip and it came to R130 for 2 people.

Unbelievable but true! Thanks Delheim, you guys rock in these tough economic times.

I remember coming here with my parents years ago and it was just as I remembered it: Beautiful! The landscape, the buildings, the restaurant, the cellar, everything! Their wine is well know and affordable. So if you are in the mood for some cheese and wine and a lovely setting, this is the place to visit.

Booked the 10h30 AM tour of the winery the day before. We were the only ones, four of us, on the tour so we could ask a million questions. This was the best tour I have ever been on. It was conducted by August who turned out to be not Xhosa but unusually for this area a Sotho speaker. Talk about knowledgeable! August has spent time working in the USA at Napa Valley and seems to have an oenological qualification. There wasn’t a question he couldn’t answer. But what made him outstanding is that he seemed to have worked in all the jobs that he was talking about. For example he had climbed into a large vat to clean it through those little doors at the bottom of the vat and knew everything about the bottling line and the moves that Delheim have taken to get the winery up to speed envirowise. The whole tour was thoroughly professional and our overseas guests greatly enjoyed it. The sampling later was interesting and again August proved very knowledgeable. I must say the 2004 Vera Cruz with all the awards didn’t seem nearly as nice as the 2007 Vera Cruz. We didn’t appreciate the car guard who, on our arrival, sat on his seat, let us park and then told us we couldn’t park there. Some well timed guidance would have been better.

picnics are awesome, pinic baskets are great, wine is ok, but grape juice is to die for (usually I don’t really try grape juice at wine farms)
